Dr. van der Velde is a PhD candidate in Clinical Epidemiology in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, Canada. Originally trained as a chiropractor, she is currently a Scientist at the University Health Network Rehabilitation Solutions in the Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis Programme at the Toronto Western Hospital, a Scientific Associate in the Division of Health Care Outcomes and Research at the Toronto Western Research Institute, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Work & Health. She is a recipient of two Canadian Institutes of Health Research Doctoral Fellowships, both through the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research. She is a member of the Scientific Secretariat of the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders, the Society for Medical Decision Making and the International Society for Quality of Life Research. Her research interests include: decision analytic modeling, economic and clinical measurement of health-related quality of life, health technology assessment of musculoskeletal conditions, and systematic review methods.
